Twenty students and a bus driver were injured in a rear-end collision involving two school buses in Renton, a Renton Fire Department spokesman said.
The students suffered minor to moderate injuries in the crash near Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and Southwest Sunset Boulevard.
Renton School District spokesman Randy Matheson said 11 students were taken to hospitals and then released hours later. The others were taken by their parents to clinics, private doctors or home, fire officials said. One bus driver was also hospitalized.
The buses had just picked up the students from nearby apartment complexes when the collision occurred, Matheson said. The buses were heading to Lakeridge Elementary School.
It wasn’t clear what led to the crash. Police and the school district continue to investigate, Matheson said.
