On Monday, March 1st, the Washington Office of the Insurance Commissioner fined Regence BlueShield a hefty $40,000 for denying health insurance to people who were eligible for or had been previously enrolled in Medicaid.
After initial complaints, investigations revealed that 65 Washington customers had been denied coverage over a two year period.
Health insurance fines generally range between $5,000 and $25,000, but that fines may be larger dependent upon which state laws are actually violated and the number of consumers harmed.
