Hood Canal: Coast Guard Helicopter Rescues 2 Stranded in Rowboat

On February 12th , 2023, the United States Coast Guard rescued two people in a rowboat who found themselves unable to maneuver their vessel due to inclement weather affecting Hood Canal. After trying for several hours to gain control of the vessel in high winds and strong currents, the boaters’ plight was reported to the Coast Guard Puget Sound Sector at 6:18 PM.

In response to this report, the USCG launched a Coast Guard Station Seattle 45-foot Response Boat – Medium boat and crew, as well as a Coast Guard Air Station Port Angelis MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and crew to help the distressed boaters.

At 7:45 PM, the helicopter crew found the distressed boaters and sent a rescue swimmer to pull both individuals into the helicopter. Both boaters were then transported to Bremerton National Airport in stable condition, where they were greeted by family members.

Recreational boating can be just as dangerous as any other type of maritime activity, particularly because recreational boaters may be less experienced than other mariners. If you or a loved one has been injured in a recreational boating incident, it is important to contact a personal injury attorney to ensure that the injured person’s rights are being protected and that they receive justice and compensation from the party that caused their injuries. A personal injury attorney will take immediate measures to preserve evidence from the incident, assess a variety of different liability and insurance coverage issues that may apply to your case, and review the facts of the injured person’s claim to ensure that justice is done.
