Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) provides key safety tips when operating a forklift.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions
- Always wear a seatbelt
- Don’t exceed load limits, keep loads stable
- Never raise/lower loads while moving
- Stay clear of platform/ramp edges
- Watch for other vehicles and pedestrians
- Use the horn at intersections
- Enter/exit using handholds and proper footing
- Never lift or give rides to people on the forks
