Alma, MI Settles Dial-A-Ride Death Lawsuit for $1.35 Million

According to court records, the Alma, MI and Dial-A-Ride case will officially be settled for $1.35 million.  A hearing was held on April 3, 2017, to approve of the settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit.  A wrongful death civil lawsuit was filed on October 2, 2015 by Earl Griffith, the “personal representative of the deceased Mildred Griffith, who was killed on September 1, 2015.”  The suit was filed against Alma and Dial-A-Ride after Mildred was struck by an Alma Dial-A-Ride bus after she was trying to grab ahold of a loose dog.  Mildred fell in front of the parked bus which then started the engine and proceed
ed forward before she got a chance to move out of the way.

The city had insurance to cover the $1.35 million settlement cost with Michigan Municipal Risk Management.  Alma city manager, Phil Moore, reported that they “have adequate insurance to
 cover that.”

The Griffith “estate requests that no monies be awarded to the estate on the account of conscious pain and suffering.”
