Death of man joyriding in excavator leads to wrongful death lawsuit

A suit has been filed on behalf of a young man who died in an excavator joyriding incident in May of 2014.

22-year-old Jared Lanphear met a man at a bar who invited him to operate the excavator at Farwest Portable Crushing Inc.’s work site. Allegedly the excavator slid off a cliff and a tree stump severed Lanphear’s legs, leading him to bleed to death.

The suit charges that Farwest Portable Crushing Inc. failed to keep the excavation site safe and to control access to an use of the machinery.
