Wrong-Way DUI Driver Who Killed Two Teens on West Seattle Bridge Sentenced to Twelve Years

In March 2023, Delfino Lopez-Morales drove under the influence at speeds of 100 miles per hour on the wrong side of the West Seattle Bridge, causing a crash that claimed the lives of two teenagers. Washington State’s DUI laws include RCW 46.61.502, which lays out the conditions to be met for a DUI charge. In this instance, what would have been a gross misdemeanor became a much more serious charge due to the two deaths. On Friday, November 8, 2024, a King County judge sentenced Lopez-Morales to over 12 years in prison, the maximum sentence allowed, due to the tragic loss of life.

During the hearing, Judge Angela Kaake told Lopez-Morales that while a single bad decision doesn’t define a person, his reckless actions had irreparably shattered the lives of multiple families.

Driving under the influence is a serious crime that not only endangers the driver but also jeopardizes the safety of everyone on the road. The consequences can be devastating, as seen in this tragic case. GLP Attorneys sends its deepest condolences to the families of Khalea Thoeuk and Riley Danard.
