On Wednesday afternoon on 1/15 in Juneau, Alaska, the Coast Guard rescued two fishermen after their vessel capsized near Kodiak.
At 9:48 a.m. Wednesday, watchstanders at the 17th Coast Guard District Command Center received a distress signal from the fishing vessel, Tanusha. In response, watchstanders launched a helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak and requested assistance from the Alaska State Troopers.
The crew of the Victory received the distress call and navigated to the Tanusha’s last known position. They located the capsized vessel and found two fishermen in a life raft. A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, assisted by the Alaska State Trooper vessel Stimson, hoisted the two fishermen and transported them to awaiting emergency medical services in Kodiak. Both were in stable condition, though one crew member showed signs of hypothermia and a head injury.
