Coast Guard Suspends Search for Missing Crew Members in Gulf of Alaska

A mayday call was received at 12:10 a.m. Sunday from the Wind Walker, a 50-foot vessel with a crew of about five people, reporting that the boat was capsizing off Point Couverden, southwest of Juneau. After the call, the crew failed to respond to follow-up attempts by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard immediately began searching for the missing crew in treacherous conditions, including heavy snow, 60 mph winds, and 6-foot seas. The area, located in the Gulf of Alaska, is under a winter storm warning.

After 24 hours of searching for the vessel and any survivors, the Coast Guard called off the search this morning. Anyone with new information about this situation is requested to contact Coast Guard Sector Southeast Alaska watchstanders at 907-463-2980. At GLP Attorneys, we send our deep condolences to the families and friends of the missing crew members.
